A set of triplets yesterday

A very non event full set of female triplets yesterday.

Today was a stressful for both me and ewe 16 Z.
A first for me, as I assisted with my first pulling of a lamb.

I was aware that she was in labour around noon, and at 4 pm I decided I must help.
At 4pm I couldn't see the front feet of the lamb , only the nose.

I pushed the head of the lamb back inside the ewe, and fished around until I found the front feet of the lamb. I got a grip on the legs and pulled slow and steady. Soon I could see the head again and within one more minute the lamb was out and moving around on the straw.

What a rush!
Fist pump and high fives!

It was a single male lamb weighing in at 16.2 lbs.

Another black lamb again.

Wow!!!! bah bah Black Sheep

This is what I found this morning!

Born as a single lamb at 13.3 lbs.
Unfortunately the mother rejected it.

Knowing how much I dislike bottle feeding lambs, I restrained the ewe to let the lamb suck.

When I released the ewe she ignored the lamb and wouldn't clean the lamb like most ewes do.
It wasn't until 5 hours later when she was done with the afterbirth that she resumed cleaning the lamb.
Shortly after that the lamb was sucking without a problem.

any comments are welcome?

A place to hang out

These lambs know how to relax.
They go to the creep feed area where the mature sheep can't get into.
They haven't discovered that they can eat the food there, but they will figure it out eventually.

Quads !!!!

Two days ago we had a ewe that gave birth to 4 lambs.
All lambs survived, but the smallest one was rejected by the ewe.
We started to bottle feed the little lamb with the hope that we can get another ewe to adopt him.

Play time at living sky ranch

Combining playtime with a good back massage.

tube feeding a lamb

It was noticed that one of the triplets (13B) became week and skinny.  It looked like she was about to die.
We tried to bottle feed her but she showed no interest. We decided to try to tube feed her directly to her stomach.
We had never done this before, so we watched this youtube video before we attempted the task.

It worked, the lamb recovered and was reunited with the mother and sisters.

Stage Fright?

In our exitement as first time lambers, I think we may have acted to quickly by putting the suspected sheep in the maternity ward.

We have returned them to the flock and will wait with more patience.

They sure look huge
